Celebrate the International Day of Charity Sept. 5

Helping Hands: International Day of Charity, Sept. 5In 2012, the United Nations established the International Day of Charity to recognize the role that charity plays in alleviating humanitarian crises and human suffering. It is celebrated on September 5 of each year, in honor of Mother Teresa. According to the UN, there are 7 types of charitable actions that can make a difference in the lives of others:

  1. Donate money.
  2. Donate time.
  3. Donate goods.
  4. Volunteer.
  5. Promote charities on social media with hashtags like #charity #charitablegiving and #DayofCharity.
  6. Start a charity.
  7. Be charitable to others in your day-to-day life.

However you choose to give, you can make a difference in the lives of individuals, families and organizations. By being charitable, we are ultimately improving everyone’s quality of life and making communities like Kent, Covington and Maple Valley stronger.

I am proud to support the following organizations: Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, John L. Scott Foundation, Kent HOPE, Young Life, Vine Maple Place, Kiwanis International, Kent Community Foundation, Kent Downtown Partnership, Kent Chamber of Commerce and the Covington Chamber of Commerce.

Thank you for caring.
