Home Care Tip #14: Start the New Year with a clean fridge

I don’t know about you but cleaning my refrigerator is one of my least favorite household tasks. You never know what you’re going to find, and it’s almost never good! Cleaning out the fridge doesn’t have to be a lengthy process though. You can clean your fridge in 30 minutes – no kidding. With just a few supplies (bucket, small cleaning brush, terrycloth towel, large sponge and a fresh box of baking soda), your fridge will look and smell much better.

1. Take food out of fridge. Toss expired or old food.

2.  Fill your bucket with water, adding baking soda. Wipe down the inside of the fridge with this solution. Use the brush to clean around brackets, gaskets and drawers to dislodge dried on food (ew!), then wipe the interior with a clean, dry, terrycloth towel.

3.  Before restocking your refrigerator, organize your food items together – like condiments, vegetables, meats and cheeses, etc. Store things that you access regularly (milk, butter, condiments, etc.) in easy to access spots, and as you put things back into the fridge, put them back in clean,  properly sealed containers. Make sure there is plenty of space between items for the free flow of air.

In just 30 minutes, your fridge is clean and fresh…without a lot of work!

Thanks to American Home Shield for these great tips!
